Cozy Up

Fall is probably my favorite season. The air is fresh, everything smells like cinnamon and spice, but most of all, I get to start wearing cozy sweaters. Emma and I were talking the other day at the mall, and both agreed that there is something endearing about ugly sweaters. So much so, that Emma bought one, and even though its still warm out, wears proudly. Even though we love ugly sweaters, most people don't really want to wear them in public. So, I've compiled a list of cozy, yet pretty, sweaters.

I can't pull up the picture on this sweater, but I can give you the link. This sweater reminds me of the extremely sought after Norwegian sweaters, but a lot cheaper. I want this sweater so bad, but still haven't decided if I want it in sand or navy. Check it out here.

This boyfriend sweater is 70% wool and 30% cotton. I just want to snuggle up in it. This sweater would be perfect for a fall date. I'd pair this with skinny jeans, a bright colored flat (maybe purple?), and a statement necklace. Get the sweater here.

This sweater is perfect for fall. Its short-sleeved, but still keeps you nice and snuggly. It comes in 6 different colors and is anything but boring. This sweater would look great with a flowy skirt and cowboy boots. Find it here.

The last sweater is also unable to be shown here. Just looking at this sweater makes me want to curl up in it with hot cocoa and a book. Check it out here.

I hope you are all as excited as me to start wearing sweaters with the upcoming season. I can't wait to start shopping for these sweaters! Comment below with your opinion on the sweaters! Also, shoot us an email with any questions or ideas.

XOXO,
Carey

You're Glowing!

Don't you just love the glow your face has in the summer? I know I do. My skin always looks its best in the summer, and not just because its tanner. Every year I'm sad to see my skin start to get duller as winter comes. But not anymore! I found the most spectacular products to keep your face looking fresh!
Benefit Cosmetics came out with the products I'm going to share with you. The line, B. Right, is all about moisturizing your face and letting your skin glow. Now, when you go online and start looking at the products your head will spin with how expensive they are. But don't worry, I've found the secret. They are selling a value pack of all the products in miniature form. Although they are really tiny, the products last for awhile because you only need to use a little at a time. Right now you can get a 6 piece value pack (that's all of the products in the B. Right line) for only $24! Getting one full  size products costs more than that. Right now I only have the 3 piece trio with the exfoliator, and two moisturizers. I bought that for only $12! I definitely plan to try the 6 piece set.
If you are interested in the the 3 piece trio, click here. If you are interested in the 6 piece set, click here. I really like this line and it actually does work. I hope you will all try it, and if you do, tell us about it! I hope this post was helpful to any of you worrying about dull skin!

Your Kitchen Spa

Kandee Johnson is a make-up artist that Carey and I LOVE. I was watching her video on egg masks (you can watch it here) and decided to research some at home beauty tricks and organic recipes. We’ll call it “Your Kitchen Spa” and this is Part 1!
I haven’t tried Kandee’s egg mask… yet. I am defiantly planning on trying it soon! I will let you know how it works when I try it!
Natural Glow
For a natural glow, eating better is the trick! If you feel like you can never get tan, consider switching your diet! However, we can’t constantly be tanning, so to make your own organic bronzer: Mix cocoa powder, cinnamon and arrowroot (optional) until you get a shade you like. Then, brush it on! Easy peezy!

Make Your Skin Soft!
Apparently, harsh cleansers pull out your natural oils and make your skin, well, oilier. Using olive, olive oil, or coconut lifts the oils from your face! For every ¼ caster oil, use about ¾ almond oil. Rub the mixture on your face and let sit for a couple minutes, then wash off with a warm wash cloth.

A version of a Facial Mask
Here is a version of Kandee Johnson’s Facial mask. Take honey, plain yogurt, and whipped egg white (whisk until they look frothy) and put all over your face. Leave on for about 10 minutes. Wipe off with warm water.

Whiten Your Teeth!
No need to splurge on an expensive teeth whitening! Just use strawberries and baking soda! Here’s how: Wash up some strawberries and add an equal amount of baking soda. But the mixture into a mouth guard and leave in for about 30 minutes. Repeat each day until you get the desired effect! If you try it, leave a picture of your pearly whites!

On one Condition…
That’s right; a natural hair conditioner can do wonders! This one strengthens and makes hair shiny and smooth. To make this conditioner mix one banana and one avocado and comb through clean, damp hour. Put on a shower cap and leave in for at least 15 minutes. Then rinse all of the mixture out in the shower! Ooooh smooth and shiny!

Please Note: If you are allergic to ANY of these ingredients, do NOT try them!
Hope you loved “Your Kitchen Spa” as much as I did! So go plan a spa slumber party and get cookin!
Do you have your own natural recipe? Let us know at fashandfrost@gmail.com or leave it in the comments! It might end of in the next post! Did you love this post? Hate it? Think you have a great idea for one? Let us know! We love to hear from you!

What's the Deal on Heels?

The reason I am doing this post is because today I bought the absolute cutest pair of heels. They are round toe, 4", red velvet pumps. Well, more like a stiletto. Anyway, my mom said to me "these would look great with skinny jeans." And I said, "yeah they would but these heels aren't exactly wear around town for no reason heels. They're party shoes." And so, now I'm going to help you decide when and where your heels will work.

Stilettos: If your heels fall into the stiletto category (as in really thin heel, like the picture above) take precautions. If you really want to wear them out on the town, then by all means go ahead. But, these shoes are usually more appropriate for a party, dance, wedding, etc.

1-3 inch heels: These are probably the most common heels. They usually aren't too flashy and have a nice sturdy heel to walk on. These heels are perfect for work, a family dinner, or just because you feel like being taller.

Chunky Heel: These are really in style right now, and it makes a lot of sense. They are insanely cute and as easy to walk in as wedges (sometimes easier). I think that they are the perfect everyday heel, if you are into wearing heels for no apparent reason like me.

Wedges: Like the "chunky heel" they are super easy to walk in. I personally only like them for spring and summer, but hey you're the ones wearing them.

Kitten Heel: These are probably my least favorite heels. Don't get me wrong, they can be extremely cute, but I just feel that if you're going to wear a heel, wear a heel. However, if you are really tall and don't want to add too much height, these are perfect for you. As a short person though, they aren't the right heel for me.

(helpful hint: walking in heels for a long time really hurts your feet. Investing in a Dr. Scholl's for Her comfy pad for the balls of your feet is a really great idea.)

Hope you liked the post. Comment below or shoot us an email. We love to hear feedback! Also, if you have any ideas for the blog, let us know!

Love,
Carey

5 Minutes

Everyone has those days. You overslept and have to get to work or school, so you leave the house looking like crap. But, that shouldn't be the case. Everyone needs to master their own 5 minute beauty rush. To get you started, here's mine:

1. Side part my hair and pull half of it back with a clip (1 minute)
2. Cover up undereye circles and any blemishes (1 minute)
3. Two coats of mascara (30 seconds)
4. Smudge a little bit of brown eyeliner on my waterline (1 minute)
5. Spritz cucumber melon body spray all over myself (10 seconds)

Okay, so technically I don't even take five minutes when I'm in a rush, which happens to be a good thing. It doesn't take long to come up with your own process. When you have time, work on it and see what looks best and what takes the shortest amount of time. Comment below if you already have a 5 minute process and tell us what it is!

Tshirts and Jeans and Blazers! Oh My!

So, today I am going to be talking about 3 things that I am MOST excited about this fall season. If you haven’t noticed, Carey and my favorite seasons to shop for is fall. If I HAD to pick the three things I can’t wait for it would be: Blazers with a tshirt and jeans. It doesn’t get much simpler than that. Of course there are other things too (boots, sweater, sweatshirts, plaid shirts… etc.).
(american eagle outfitters www.ae.com)
Ok, so you wear tshirts in the summer too. I just love them! I’m not talking about tshirts that you would play sports in, I’m talking about the shirts that are light and flowy, fitted just enough, and come in a wide variety of colors and styles.  I just purchased a new favorite of mine from Pac Sun. Even though Lauren Conrad said “If you find one you like… buy multiples!” I didn’t listen! Now, I am wishing I did! They look great under anything (leather, blazer, and cardigan) but right now I am OBSESSED with them under blazers!
(H&M www.hm.com)

You can find so many different styles that it is pretty hard not to find one you love! I just purchased a navy blue one form JCPennys. Forever21 also has a ton. This is something that, if you love it, is a good splurge item. A nice blazer will last forever and you can make them look different every time you wear them! What I love about the tshirt look is, you can pair it with boots, flats, even heels!

I just did a post on finding the right pair of jeans and I can’t stress enough how important it is to find your perfect pair. I love a dark wash! But, you can hear all about that here.

Hope this gives you some inspiration on some new outfits! Leave what outfit you are most excited for in the comments!

My Current Shopping List

I don't know about you, but I personally love to make lists. It helps me stay organized and on track. I especially need lists when I am shopping, because I always tend to buy the things that I didn't set out to buy. So, here is my very brief, but much needed, shopping list.
  • Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray (to give me the perfect beach waves)
  • A fancy dress for fall events
  • A cute pair of heels to go with the dress
  • A new clutch (preferably sequined or faux snakeskin)
  • A cute pair of boots
Thats it for today. I know it wasn't long, but we'll make up for it tomorrow! Comment below with whats on your shopping list! We'd love to hear from you!

Caution! Do Not Cross!

So far, none of our posts told you about products to STAY AWAY from but, that is exactly what I will be talking about today! After talking to some friends, and using my own personal experiances, I have put together a list of things that you DO NOT want to cross.

Sally Hansen Nail Polish
My friend actually brought this to my attention the other day. In her words “I think sally Hansen’s colors are awesome but the brush sucks! It’s too thick and you can’t make any good strokes without it getting on your skin. And my personal opinion, it does not dry that fast.” There you have it. What do you think? Should we stick with OPI or give it another chance?

Jergen’s natural glow lotion
As I was talking to my friend about the nail polish, she brought up this stuff. It’s supposed to make you tanner. She is fair skinned and said that she put it on after her shower. Apparently it dies your hands and it smells… bad.

Delia’s Jewelry
C’mon, I’m all for Delia’s clothes. In fact, I was just there yesterday but, their jewelry is not so good. Most of the pieces are beautiful, if only they didn’t fall apart. I bought an awesome bracelet from there for $8.00. The next week, it snapped… in half. The worst part is, it was a rope bracelet! Carey said that hers have been falling apart too.

Have your own “Caution” products? Let us know in the comments or email us (fashandfrost@gmail.com) and YOURS might be in the next post! Disagree with one of these? Let me know why!

Denim Your Way

You have probably heard it over and over again on countless magazine covers: “Your perfect jean style!” or “Find the jean for you!” right? Well, today I am REALLY going to be giving you the break down on jeans. Where to buy, when to splurge, how to buy, and which style is right for you.
Let’s start with the basics: Just like everyone is different, every pair of jeans is different. What looks amazing on your friend may not look as good on you. That’s OK! It’s important to find YOUR jean style. So here is the breakdown:

If you’re:
Tall and Thin: a,b,d,e,f
Short and Straight: a,e,f,c
Tall and Curvy:  b,c,d,e,f
Short and Curvy: b,d,e,f
Somewhere in between: a,b,c,d,e,f

(These are JUST recommendations. If you try on the suggested style and they don’t look good, no worries! Just try in styles until you find one you adore!)
a.      a.Skinnys are one of the best pair of jeans for you! Try them in a dark wash for the full effect! (Plus, they go with pretty much everything!)
b.      b. Boot legs are the way-to-go! Why not get a ripped pair? They are so cute and give your outfit an edgy feel! I love the worn out color washes in the knees and thighs!
c.      c. Flare. Yes, they are making a comeback! I think they look best in a lighter wash.
d.      d. Boyfriend relaxed jeans will look amazing! Dark or light, doesn’t matter!
e.      e.EVERYONE needs a pair of dark wash jeans. If it is already recommended, great! If not, I strongly suggest finding a pair that you LOVE!
f.        f. Straight leg jeans look good on short, tall, super skinny, and curvy girls! Have fun experimenting with rips, tears, and colors that you like!

Where to buy:
I LOVE Delia’s jeans. They may be a little pricey but they have pretty much a style and size for everyone. The workers there are always really helpful! I ended up buying a pair of ripped jeans that are one of my favorites now because a lady suggested it!
Pac Sun has great jeans too! If you are shorter, they have new sizes just for you!
Hollister just got a new line of jeans in. I haven’t checked out the prices or the quality but, it might be worth checking!

How to find your perfect pair:
I HATE trying things on. I swear, those changing rooms are every girl’s worst enemies. What’s worse is the whole “size” situation. You might think your one size, but your jeans beg to differ. So how do I battle all these things?
-         - Bring multiple sizes and styles into the changing room, even if you don’t think you will need/want them.
-         - Try on every pair. Then, mix them up and try them on without looking at the sizes. It will take away the pressure of what size you are trying on and let you focus on how they actually look and feel.
-          -Feel good going in. If you are having a bad day, don’t go jean shopping. Chances are you aren’t going to buy anything good. Also, look your best. If you look in the mirror and you don’t like what you see, then you aren’t going to like the jeans either. If you feel confident and pretty then you are more likely to buy a better pair of jeans!
-          -Ask for help. Yes that’s right, talk to the people that are in the store. They are there to help. Even if it’s just asking for another size, it can really help to have someone that works there backing you up :)
-         - Bring a trusted friend. Having someone waiting outside, cheering you on, and letting you know from their point of view can take away some of the frustration of that florescent lighting and skinny mirrors.

Money Wise:
It’s happened to the best of us: You’re in the dressing room, admiring how awesome you look in those jeans. All of the outfits you can make with them are rushing through your head. Then, you look down and catch a glimpse of the tag. Yikes! What do you do?
Do you REALLY love them, or are you just caught up in the moment? If you do love them, and know you are going to wear them GET ‘EM! It’s all about cost per wear. If they cost a lot, but you will also wear them a lot, it’s worth it. However, if you are just caught up in the moment, some back. Ask the people working there if you can put them on hold. At the end of your shopping day, try them back on. Still love them? Get them! If not, you just saved yourself a whole lot of cash!

Everything Else:
-Here are two great tips when it comes to jeans that are too long, but fit everywhere else, or are too big in the waist but the perfect length: belts and hemming. Seems simple right? That’s because it is! Just add a belt or hem them!
-Bright jean colors are in again! I am personally excited to try them! Anyone with me?

Jean shopping should be a fun thing! All those styles just waiting for you to try them! So have fun with it! If you strike out, no worries! Just try again some other time! I hope this post helped! Feel free to leave your best jean shopping tips and tricks in the comments! Love this post? Hate it? Have a better idea for one? Let us know! Comment or email us at fashandfrost@gmail.com . Make sure you “follow” us!

Beauty Sleep

Sleep is one of the oldest beauty tricks out there. Getting the right amount of sleep is key to a healthy body. How many times have you stayed up all night, and the next morning, wish you hadn't? I know that this happens to me at least three times a week (at least in the summer). I wake up the next morning feeling disgusting. I also have to sport incredibly noticeable under eye circles.
The right amount of sleep is important, but many people don't know what the "right amount" is. For most adults eight hours is perfect. However, we tend to think that eight hours is perfect for everyone. Thats not true. For young adults and teens, the ideal amount of sleep is ten hours. I can tell you right now that I do not get ten hours of sleep every night. I just make it to eight.
Sometimes though, it isn't necessarily our fault. Getting to sleep early is extremely hard for many people. So, below I'm going to list some little tricks for falling asleep.

One of the main reasons people can't get to sleep is that there are lights all around them. From electronics, street lights, or even cars. We live in a world full of artificial light and it is hard to get away from. My suggestion is to wear a sleep mask. Although I can't get the picture, the one here is insanely cheap and will do the trick.

The next reason some people can't get to sleep is because of noise. Some things just won't shut up at night, and it can be extremely annoying. My suggestion is to use your ear phones (from your ipod, bluetooth, or whatever) to block out the noise. Also, if it helps, and you have an ipod, make a playlist with relaxing songs and turn it on a low volume. That usually helps me fall asleep.

Sometimes, there just isn't a specific reason  why you can't fall asleep. If you can't pinpoint the reason, and its not a medical issue, try this:

Its Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Sleep mist. Get it here.
Lastly, I know that there are vitamins you can buy to help you sleep. I'm not advertising these because I have no idea how they work, or the side affects. Try them if you think you need them, but I would talk to a doctor first.

Beauty sleep really is important to not only your looks, but to your health. If you aren't getting enough sleep, try to in the future. And, leave us a comment or shoot us an email if you like this post or if you don't.

Argan Oil

When I came on to Fashion and Frosting today, I found it funny that Emma wrote a post about whether or not rain damages your hair. I found this funny because I wanted to share in my post today a little beauty secret. Argan oil!
Argan oil is great for your hair. Just rub a few drops onto the ends of your hair and, voila! Say goodbye to split ends! It also is great for after the shower. Just a rub a tiny bit (too much will make your hair oily, hence the name argan oil) on your hair and it gives you great shine. It has also been suggested to put it on hair before using things like blowdryers or flatirons.
Now, not only is argan oil great for hair, it can be used for other things. I like to use it as a moisturizer for my face, and then rub the excess on my elbows. It does basically the same thing as lotion, but I wouldn't suggest rubbing it all over because argan oil is a little expensive and comes in a small bottle. I wouldn't risk wasting it, but thats just me.
If you are interested in buying argan oil, you can find it at Sephora. The brand I use is Josie Maran. Her argan oil usually costs $48 for 1.7oz. I know that its pricey, but for me it is definitely worth it. Email us with your input. And I am also going to look for a cheaper brand of argan oil. If I do find one, I'll keep you posted!

Rain Down on Me

Rain Water: good or bad for your hair. That is the question I have been going crazy trying to answer. Some say that it is great for your hair, that the clouds act as a natural filter and therefore the combination of that and the natural water makes your hair soft and silky. Others say that because of acid rain, pollution and other gross things, it is horrible for your hair. That it was once good for your hair but, because of the environment it is no longer safe. Even though I am guilty of going out and dancing in the rain until my hair is completely soaked, the second option makes more sense to me(and to more experts). So, how do you save your hair from those rainy days?
Rain makes your hair brake easier, and therefore makes it frizzy. Also, all of those pollutants cannot be good for it. So, after you come inside, take a shower with a regular shampoo (nothing too crazy because your hair is already somewhat stripped of the natural oils) and a good conditioner. Lice are big in the rainy season and, because of the high humidity and the wet hair, dandruff is also common. So, keep lice medication and dandruff shampoo handy. If you already have dandruff, I do not recommend getting soaked in the rain (sorry).
On a personal note: As I am sitting here writing this and I can’t help but feel guilty. Why, you ask? Well, because I was out in the rain pretty much all day yesterday, thought that rain water was good for your hair, and thus have not washed my hair yet. However, when I run my fingers through it, it does feel really silky and doesn’t smell horrible. However it is pretty frizzy and feels almost spongy. I can’t tell from sitting here if it is stripped of oils and is damaging it but hey, it’s soft. Now, is it worth it? I can’t tell you. But one thing is for sure, whether it’s bad for your hair or not, rain is perfect for the soul.

Cute Shoes Under $30

Finding cute shoes for a good price has always been an issue for me. I usually see a pair of shoes that cost a WHOLE LOT, fall in love, and end up going home broke. I actually got the cutest shoes ever for a dance that cost about $70. Not only did the cause me to not be able to walk, it was the only time I wore them. So, I was online today and found a few shoes that are extremely cute, but won't break the bank.

Moccasins are probably an internationally known fall staple. But who can afford the real ones? With these you won't have to. They're incredibly cheap and only $26.50! Get them here.

Get these while the warm weather is still here. Everyone loves a cute pair of sandals and I am personally in love with them. They only cost $24.99! Check 'em out here.

Heels are my favorite shoes to wear. Now the might not always be comfy but these are perfect if you are going to wear them for awhile. The heel is chunky, so it won't kill your feet. They round out to a total of $24.99! Buy them here.

The last pair of shoes is something you cannot live without. Every girl needs a pair of flats. And here we have a cute pair of glittery flats. I adore anything that sparkles. This pair only costs $29.99!

Hope you liked this post. Again, shoot us an email with questions or ideas. I'm also thinking of doing a Q and A post with readers questions.

Shop 'till You Drop

So, like I said in my last post, the writers of Fashion and Frosting went on a big shopping trip on Wednesday. The Mall in Columbia is a big mall about an hour or so away from where we live. It has almost every store we love to go to.
We started out early, Carey and Megan showed up at my house at around 8:00AM. After a nice pancake, whip cream, and a special mixture of Orange Juice and Sprite, we head out! Dressed in each of our favorite sun dresses, we headed to American Eagle first. The first store in a shopping day is hard. You find things you like, but don’t want to spend any money on anything just yet, in case you find something better later. However, when we went back later we did make quite a few purchases. (There will be a full list of what each of us bought from where at the end of this post)
After walking out of a few more stores empty handed we decided to grab lunch and a coffee and re-group. Sitting in Panera, we talked about what each of us wanted to buy by the end of the trip. (It’s always good to have a list of some of the things you want, so you aren’t just walking around not knowing) After finishing the last of our coffee, we went to Aberocrombie and Fitch. I have had my eye on a certain shirt there forever and was really excited to try it on. NO! We went in and I asked the guy where I could find the shirt on the Mannequin. His Response? “Oh, we don’t sell the things on the mannequins in stores, you have to buy it online.” WHAT?!!? Why would you display things in your store that YOU DON’T SELL? We left, and headed to a few more stores before we started getting in the groove.
Here are a few tips that I have learned along the way:
-        - It IS hard  to buy something you like in the first store, so if you aren’t sure, come back later.
-        - Try EVERYTHING on, even if you are positive it will fit. When we went to Pac Sun, I was almost certain this cute tank top was going to fit, but after I tried it on I discovered it looked HORRIBLE!
-        - If you aren’t in the shopping mood, grab a drink and a table and chill for a while. Then go back and try again.
-        - Even though you might have a certain style (flirty, edgy, chill) its fun to try ones that are out of your comfort zone. Have a friend that isn’t always your style pick something out for you. You never know, you might find that you like it!

And now, what we bought! (for some reason, blogger is being difficult so I will post pics of what we bought in the Photo Gallery!)

My Fall Wishlist

Fall shopping has to be my absolute favorite shopping season. The thought of getting into new jeans and cozy sweaters, actually beats out the thought of bringing out the classic summer staple, short shorts. Anyway, fall shopping is a lot of fun. Here's a few pieces that are on my list:

Flare jeans! They are so in this season. My favorite pair (there's supposed to be a picture, but I'm having issues) is super cute and actually comes in my size. So, for all of you short girls out there try these.

Here is the sweater that I am currently in love with. I actually already bought this sweater (shopping spree yesterday!). Now, even though it cost more than I would have liked, the cost per wear in this situation is great. Since I got it in a really dark navy it'll go with basically anything, plus I practically live in sweaters during the cold months. Even though the cost per wear is great, I'd be lying if I said that the reason I bought this sweater is not due to the fact that it feels like heaven on your arms. I mean, its seriously soft.

If you want it, get it here.

Next item up (which I also can't upload the picture to) is a really pretty cream dress. It also comes in black and grey. This dress is perfect for the beginning of fall, when the weather is still warm. Lucky for me it costs less than the sweater and comes in xxs online (again, I'm really short). Check it out here.

Here are the shoes that I have wanted all summer, and had to wait till fall for. I haven't bought them yet, but I am determined to get them soon. They have a very boho feel, and are a great change to my classic Uggs (which I wore so much last winter, they got a hole in them).

Like these? Get them here.

Last, but not least, is a top that I actually saw online today. Now, I'm not sure how its going to fit, but hey, its pretty online. So, I'll find out soon enough if it looks good in person. The thing that drew me to it is the color. I tend to like anything in a pretty teal. Plus, the style is definitely in this season.

Get this shirt here.

Hope everyone liked the post! Email us with questions, or ideas and we'll try our best to help!

XOXO,
Carey
